"Work'us: First There is No Mountain"
Proof Gallery, South Boston

Work'us activates the history of Proof Gallery's neighborhood by means of a tongue-in-cheek interpretation of Charles Dickens' visit to South Boston in 1842. The work revives this history through a scattering of associations and symbols meant to guide the viewer's mind on a colorful, dream-like journey. Using sculpture, video, and multimedia collage, Work'us presents the antiquated customs and details of Dickens' visit through allusions to his classic novel Oliver Twist as well as its Technicolor resurrection as a campy 1960's musical.
