Lisa Rybovich Cralle
Work'us: First There Is No Mountain
January 24 - March 7, 2009
Proof Gallery is pleased to present "Work'us: First There Is No Mountain" by San Francisco-based multi-media artist Lisa Rybovich Cralle.
Lisa Rybovich Cralle's exhibition "Work'us: First There is No Mountain" activates the history of Proof Gallery's neighborhood by means of a tongue-in-cheek interpretation of Charles Dickens' visit to South Boston in 1842. Cralle's work revives this history through a scattering of associations and symbols meant to guide the viewer's mind on a colorful, dream-like journey. Using sculpture, video, and multimedia collage, Work'us presents the antiquated customs and details of Dickens' visit through allusions to his classic novel Oliver Twist as well as its Technicolor resurrection as a campy 1960's musical.
Lisa has exhibited her work widely in the U.S. and abroad, including such venues as SFMoma, Three Walls and Roots and Culture in Chicago. Proof is very happy to host her Boston solo debut.
